From Romero to Overlord: A Visual History of Zombies in Film

Dawn of the Dead (1978)

Now with color, Romero could further create what the staple of a zombie would look like.

Romero gave more reason to be afraid of the iconic horror creatures by giving the undead grayish skin, open cuts and wounds across their bodies to complement that shambling walk. With brains being the only thing on their mind and arms wide-open, these zombies would stop at nothing to feed.

But these zombies are not against just the typical civilians this time around as they fight against trained soldiers trying to survive in a mall. However, not even the most highly trained soldiers could be a match for the overwhelming force of the undead. This Romero sequel truly shows that no one is safe from a zombie’s deadly grasp.
