**The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘s seventh chapter, “Feast of Feasts,” was pretty heavy on information. I’ll do my best not to spoil anything, but read at your own risk.**
At the very beginning, Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) and Harvey (Ross Lynch) are walking home together. Everything seems normal, but when she begins to invite him in, she notices lamb entrails hanging on her door. Turns out, this rather disgusting display is a message from the Council: Sabrina’s family has been selected to participate in the ‘Feast of Feasts.’
The Feast of Feasts is an interesting tradition, where 14 witches (1 from each of the selected families) are to draw a paper from a box. One witch will be selected to be the Queen of the Feast, which sounds spectacular until we find out that the Queen is sacrificed and eaten by her fellow witches. But according to Prudence (Tati Gabrielle), being the Queen is the greatest honor and following your sacrifice, you are granted a place in the Dark Lord’s heart where you bathe in his light for eternity… which, personally, I think sounds like a really boring way to spend eternity.
As I totally didn’t expect, Prudence is selected to be Queen and Sabrina is to be her hand maiden, so she has to do everything Prudence demands until the day of the Feast. I mean, to be fair, she’s about to be sacrificed and then eaten, so I do think she’s entitled to having whatever she wants for a few days. Sabrina doesn’t like this whole cannibalistic tradition (why would you?), so she decides to try and figure out if there’s a way to change it or find some kind of flaw to keep Prudence from meeting a terrible fate (even if Prudence doesn’t see it as one).
Meanwhile, Ms. Wardwell (Michelle Gomez) has assigned the class to research their family history and Sabrina’s friends begin to find out some interesting family stories that connect them all to the witches of Greendale. They aren’t witches. But their families were involved with witches, all in different ways. The things we find out about Roz (Jaz Sinclair), Susie (Lachlan Watson), and Harvey will all have quite the impact on Sabrina and the very future of Greendale, that they don’t even understand. There’s also the ever-growing suspicious actions of Father Blackwood.
This episode is 90% revelation and 10% Prudence being a sassy, spoiled…well, you know. It’s definitely not an action-filled episode, but it’s still very intense. I think what I liked most about the episode were the philosophies throughout it. There are many parallels you can draw between this episode and real-life religions or schools of thought. This episode is one that gives not just Sabrina, but us as the viewers a lot to think about.
OVERALL SCORE: 8.5 / 10
