The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 6 Recap: ‘Who Are You Now?’

After last week’s final episode of Rick Grimes, I was anxious and nervous to see how this week’s episode would turn out.

Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of last night’s episode, and still to this day I think Carol (Melissa McBride) is the best developed character on this show.

‘Who Are You Now?’ takes place six years after Rick’s last stand. We see a new group of survivors being brought in by the little ass kicker herself, Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming). The Alexandria town committee needs to vote on whether they will let the new group of survivors stay in the community or not.

Meanwhile, in the kingdom, Queen Carol and her son, Henry (Matt Lintz), go on a delivery run to the Hilltop, and run into Jed (Rhys Coiro) and the remaining Saviors — the same Saviors Carol had issues with on the bridge. They take Carol’s supplies and let her and Henry go. However, when Jed asks for her wedding ring from Ezekiel (Khary Patterson), Henry attempts to attack him. Before Jed could finish Henry off, Carol saves him and gives Jed her ring. She returns to where the Savior group were sleeping and see that she’s drenched them in gas and lights them up in flames.

Elsewhere, Eugene (Josh McDermott) and Rosita (Christian Serratos) set up a new piece of radio equipment to boost the chances of discovering more survivors — but there’s a herd approaching them. There’s a super intense moment when Eugene is climbing down a water tower when his ladder falls out from under him.

Back at Alexandria, Michonne (Danai Gurrira) decides that the group they brought in can’t stay in Alexandria. However, as they were getting ready to leave, she had a change of heart, after Magna (Nadia Hilker), one of the survivors, brought over a knife she hid from Michonne during their stay in Alexandria.

The episode ends when Eugene and Rosita cover themselves in mud to hide from the walker herd. As the herd is walking past them, we can hear a raspy/whispering voice saying “where are they? They must be close. Don’t let them get away.“

Only two episodes left for the year, and next week looks very promising with the introduction of The Whisperers.

‘Who Are You Now? Rating: 8 out of 10
