The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Christmas Special started off by establishing that it was definitely a continuation of the season. So, if you haven’t seen the entire first season obviously don’t watch this special yet. It definitely is not meant to be a stand alone episode. That being said, this review will include spoilers from Season One.
So, if you were ever curious about how the Spellman family celebrates Christmas this special certainly answers that. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina definitely established its own special blend of Satanism. And, this Christmas special continued that theme. But, I’ll get more into that later. First off I’d like to talk about that mid season finale.
If you recall Sabrina was tricked into signing her name into The Book of the Beast. As a result she got a marvelous hair makeover, but lost Harvey. She also had her 2 closest friends waking up to the fact that her family is all witches. It was hard to tell where her mortal relationships were going to head from here. Luckily this special somewhat answers most of these questions. So, if you really enjoyed the first season don’t skip this special.
Now that we’re caught up I want to tell you a little bit about what you can look forward to in this special. Ms. Wordwell is up to her usual treachery. Susie looks flipping adorable at his after school job, and of course we get to meet all kinds of new demons. This thought leads me back to my introductory paragraph.
The Spellman’s actually celebrate Winter Solstice, and we get to meet all kinds of Icelandic creatures in this special as a result. Now, in order for me to fully enjoy Sabrina I have to throw most of my knowledge on religion out the window. But, they actually did a mostly decent representation the Icelandic characters. I realize the show is trying to make their own home-brew religion. Which makes everything previously mentioned far more tolerable. And, the writers did well to make these different deities mingle together.
Overall I found this special to be entertaining. We did get some answers, but sadly we get more questions as well. As always the visual effects were stunning. The story was quite cohesive. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Christmas Special brought comfort and joy. If you look at comfort into some answers on Sabrina’s human relationships.
