U.S. premium movie and entertainment channel EPIX is set to air a four-part series titled, Punk on March 11, 2019.
The show is will be executive produced by punk godfather Iggy Pop and fashion icon John Varvatos. It will feature interviews with Pop, Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein (Blondie), Marky Ramone (The Ramones), John Lydon (Sex Pistols), Wayne Kramer (MC5) and many others.
The TV documentary series will also feature insights from and showcase many artists and industry figures influenced by the punk scene ranging from Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) to Flea (Red Hot Chilli Peppers).
Although details on the project are currently scarce, producer Varvatos stated the following in Rolling Stone, “Exploring and reliving the history of punk has been an absolute labor of love for me. Punk’s ability to transcend generations in its culture, music and style is a story that needs to be told. So… Hey Ho, Let’s Go!”
Iggy Pop’s last full album Post Pop Depression, featured Queens of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and Artic Monkey’s drummer, Matt Helders. This fusion of musical talent was recently showcased at the CalJam Festival in October.
Pop recently joined William Shatner on his Shatner’s new Christmas Album, Shatner Claus — adding his inimitable musical stylings to a duet of ‘Silent Night.’
We’re excited to see Iggy Pop heading to Australia for a headlining spot on the behemoth five-day music event that is the 30th Anniversary of the Byron Bay Bluesfest in Byron Bay, Australia.
