It took a whole season for the kids from Runaways to well, run away – but they are finally on their own. After being robbed, the crew has no money, no food, and nowhere to stay. They do, however, have their own dinosaur.
Alex (Rhenzy Feliz) takes matters into his own hands and continues working with Darius to get paid, unbeknownst the rest of the Runaways. Meanwhile, the parents have been part of this PRIDE thing for so long but don’t really seem to have any real idea of what they’re actually a part of. They’re fighting with their kids, among themselves, and want to turn on their leader Jonah (Julian McMahon). After abducting and sacrificing random teenagers they are finally starting to realize that this is a complete mess.
Tina (Brittany Ishibashi) ends up murdering Molly’s (Allegra Acosta) relative Graciella (Marlene Forte) while Molly’s foster parents recover the VHS of Molly’s real parents. Tina and Geoffrey (Ryan Sands) form some sort of leadership alliance where they are guaranteed to double cross each other. Elsewhere Jonah finds Victor Stein in an afterlife of sorts while his body heals. Jonah asks for Victor (James Marsters ) to build another box that will sustain Jonah. We still have no idea what exactly Jonah is or where he’s from. To make things even more interesting, Jonah has a secret rendezvous with Karolina (Virginia Gardner).
After a heartbreaking scene where Molly finds Graciella murdered, the kids really all step up for one another. They realize that they even though they are on their own, they are a family. Alex buys tents, Chase tends to Molly, and Nico and Karolina comfort each other. One of my favorite scenes in the premiere finds Molly falling asleep while petting the dinosaur. This is the heart of the show right here.
At the conclusion of the episode the Runaways stumble upon a hidden underground mansion of sorts, that seems like a perfect superhero hideout (just sayin’). It’s gross and shared by a family of raccoons, but it’s home! They love it and I love it too.
This show is constantly intriguing and the kids are fantastic. The mix of tech, knowledge, and super powers are also pretty unique. Each episode presents so many questions, that I’m reminded of shows like LOST. My only hope is that they provide ALL of the answers we are looking for along the way.
