Buffy The Vampire Slayer is written by Jordie Bellaire, illustrated by Dan Mora and colored by Raul Angulo. Buffy is published by Boom Studios!
This issue starts off by showing us our favorite slayer, Buffy working in a Tunaverse. What is a Tunaverse? Think Captain D’s level of cheesy restaurant. Obviously she’s bored out of her mind in this job. Buffy hasn’t been in Sunnydale long, and she hasn’t been able to make friends yet.
But, Buffy is very aware of her abilities as The Slayer. For those of you that are not aware of what a slayer is, I’ll let this first issue answer that itself. For others that have followed the TV series, I want to let you know that Buffy is still very much a bad ass in this rendition. She’s also just as witty and bubbly as you recall. I can almost hear Sarah Michelle Gellar’s voice as I’m reading Buffy’s dialogue.
Thanks to Buffy’s spidey sense we’ll say, she is able to take down some baddies that are threatening Sunnydale’s human population. And, all your favorite characters are back. Well, I can’t promise all of them. But, I can promise at least 4 of them are back in this version of Buffy. And, there’s already plot setups for some crazy things to unfold in this first issue.
Oh, and for us older TV series Scoobies, keep your eyes out for Easter Eggs from the Whedonverse!
I was a little worried about this re-telling of Buffy, but Scoobies, fear not. Buffy The Vampire Slayer is very much a comic series that TV series fans and noobie scoobies can sink their teeth into. Man, I hope I made up the term noobie scoobies. Anyway, the story is different, but still very familiar. All the characters we’ve grown to love and meet to this point all have their original voices and all familiar and inviting. Scoobies, you need to read Buffy The Vampire.
