Sponge Bob’s Appearance Was the Only Memorable Part of Maroon 5’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

Remember that time we dumped on Coldplay for being a “boring” halftime act at the Super Bowl?

Maroon 5 just told them to hold their beer.

While a lot of people weren’t exactly stoked on Maroon 5 performing at halftime, nor was anyone really expecting a performance that rivaled Beyonce in production, or Prince in performance — you had to expect better than that.

Maroon 5 came out the gates and sleepwalked their way through their greatest hits. Literally starting their set off flat as a board, the band’s set was “look at everything but listen to nothing.” The pyro, the lights, the spectacle, and a shirtless Adam Levine (who got HUGE) distracted from a bland, forgettable slog through the hits.

Hip hop stars Travis Scott and Big Boi’s introductions were longer, and more memorable than their performances. Scott’s performance was overshadowed by the massive flames erupting on the stage. Big Boi got to pull his song “I Like the Way You Move” out of the mothballs and play it for new ears, which was cool.

The highlight of the halftime show? The inclusion of Sponge Bob Squarepants in the performance. That was good for a chuckle, and a nostalgic pop.

Overall, this was a forgettable halftime performance that we’re all going to forget by end of this boring as hell first half of a game.

Let’s talk about those trailers instead.
