Welcome to the second episode of Pop Break’s Decade Discussion. This monthly series, hosted by Editor-in-Chief Bill Bodkin, are interviews with people who have been important to the 10 years of Pop Break’s existence.
This month’s interview is with one of Pop Break’s first writers — Jason Kundrath — whose band Hero Pattern has just released their back catalog on Spotify today. In this interview Bill and Jason talk about their time working together in college, Jason’s role in both Bill’s career and the formation of Pop Break, and of course the history, and future (!!!) of Hero Pattern.
The discussion also includes reminiscence about the early 2000s New Brunswick music scene, music journalism, and the weird time of music where record labels were still important (but failing) and streaming was not even a thing.
On a personal note, it cannot be said enough how much Jason has impacted the entire course of my life. Literally, the first person who believed in my writing (that wasn’t my parents), and gave me the advice and opportunities needed to pursue a career in journalism, and to start this site.

Hero Pattern will be performing live on Saturday February 23 at Coney Island Baby in New York City along with The Minus Scale and Fairmont. Tickets are available here.
