Pokémon Direct Announces Pokémon Sword & Shield

Today is an important day for Pokémon fans. Not only is it Pokémon Day, but this morning at 9am ET and 6am PT, Nintendo released a brief live broadcast of Pokémon Direct that gave us some new information about the Generation 8 game, Pokémon Sword & Shield. Just like its predecessors, the new game will feature brand new starters to begin your next epic journey with.

First, we have Grookey, a grass-type monkey.

Next, there’s Scorbunny, a fire type bunny.

Third, Sobble, which is a water type salamander…I think…that’s what it looks like to me. It’s some kind of water reptile.

The graphics look absolutely stunning, which is to be expected but still, it’s awesome to finally be able to see what this new world will look like. From the brief trailer, it seems that not only with we travel to different places and experience different weather, but the seasons might actually change throughout the game, which we be a whole new mechanic we haven’t seen before. We also don’t know much about it, but the trailer ends with shots of Pokémon fighting in a stadium and then a scene of what will be your character walking out onto the field before it fades away. We’re going to battle in Pokémon Stadium. I. Cannot. Wait.

I wish it was longer, but sadly Pokémon Direct ended after just a few minutes. But at least now we have a vision to wait for. The official release date is to be determined, but we can expect to see Pokémon Sword & Shield late 2019.
