Okay Scoobies. I’m sure that after reading my reviews for issues #1 and #2 you’re aware that Buffy The Vampire Slayer has your favorite characters from the TV series, but with all new stories. Now that I’ve established that I am going to no longer compare the TV series to the comic’s story line unless it’s absolutely necessary to in order for me to share my views on the story line in the comic. Oh, and as always, there will be spoilers from previous issues.
Okay, so in the last issue we met Cordelia Chase, and she was basically perfect. Super sweet, really encouraging … and okay, maybe not perfect. Because she totally was talking to Spike in the woods without any type of alarms going off for her. We also saw that Drusilla was holding Anya hostage in her own occult shop.
Issue #3 picks up with Spike checking in on Dru and Anya. If you recall at the end of Issue 2 Anya unleashed a fun large demonic looking creature on Dru. It’s still there. Spike gets a nice greeting from it. And while all this is going on Buffy is still looking for that mysterious jewelry. Remember the weird trinket that kept that vamp alive after Buffy staked him?
And, she’s a little peeved because she’s not getting any help from her watcher, Giles. Just as she’s getting more and more frustrated she notices our kinda furry red friend from the occult shop. She hears it saying it must kill all vamps, but Buffy also realizes this huge flying creature poses a threat to humans. And, to make matters worse this flying creature is headed towards her favorite coffee shop.
Will Buffy save the day? You’ll just have to read for yourself.
Ok, so I can’t praise this comic enough. I really love this re-telling with all my favorite characters. In a way I actually like their interactions more in the comic. Because Jordie Bellaire is doing one hell of a job in the story-telling and character development department here. Writing is fast-paced, funny, and really an homage to Joss Whedon’s original tale.
