It’s no secret that David Bowie and the Philadelphia region had a mutual love affair that went back to the early 70’s. It was one of his very favorite places. Besides recording Young Americans at Philly’s legendary Sigma Sounds Studios in 1974, he also recorded his first live album, David Live at the Tower Theatre the same year.
So it was no surprise at all that the Keswick Theatre was packed with fans from the Tri-State area, all here for the sole purpose of celebrating the music of David Bowie. What better way to celebrate the music of this icon then with musicians who actually played in his band,wrote or collaborated with him over the last few decades. These are world class musicians/vocalists.
This year’s band includes a whose who of exceptional talent on stage. At the helm is Bowie’s longest standing band member, pianist Mike Garson. The show also features legendary guitarist Earl Slick (Diamond Dogs,Young American album),Bassist Carmen Rojas (Let’s Dance/Serious Moonlight Tour) Guitarist/singer Charlie Sexton and Earl Slick’s son John Lee on drums. Rounding out the vocalists are Rolling Stones long time sideman Bernard Fowler and Corey Glover (Living Colour frontman). The 2019 tour is slightly different then last years, which did not go beyond any song after 1977. The crowd will be treated to some of his 80’s gems, fan favorites and deep cuts from Bowie’s exceptional body of work, which spans nearly 50 years.
