‘Scars’ was a classic Walking Dead filler episode, but it was also one of the darkest episodes we’ve seen in a while. This made me ask the question “Why make this episode so dark when it that didn’t further bring the main plots?” As entertaining as some moments were last night, I just wanted to see more follow up from after Daryl’s encounter with Beta.
The only remnant of this storyline we was Darryl, and his group show up in Alexandria to patch Henry up from the Whisperer showdown on last week’s episode. This arrival is the catalyst for the bulk of the episode — flashbacks where we find out why Michonne doesn’t like or allow many new followers in Alexandria.
While there was a scene with Michonne and Negan that I thought was pretty entertaining, I could not fathom why this episode was so dark. It literally felt dark just for the sake of it.
I don’t think the episode needed to be that extreme. I feel if there some more Whisperer situations. This makes me wonder. We haven’t seen what Alpha does yet to some of the survivors, like she did in the comics. However, something tells me we’ll see that by the end of this season. I just don’t know who exactly is getting that treatment from her and the Whisperers.
Now only two episodes left of the season, and next week’s episode looks like a more entertaining one than ‘Scars’.
