Welcome to the third episode of Pop Break’s 10-Year Anniversary Podcast Series — Decade Discussions. This series, hosted by the site’s editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin (that’s me), is an interview podcast that features friends of the site who’ve helped Pop Break reach 10 years of existence.
For March, it’s a reunion of ‘The Blerd and The Beard.’ This was a fun, but albeit short-lived podcast series with myself, and this month’s guest, Mike Heyliger. The show ran on both Pop Break, and Mike’ site Pop Blerd. I was a regular on Mike’s Blerd Radio podcast — often regaling with him my ridiculous stories of running into celebrities (usually when I was hammered).
It’s been four or five years since we podcasted, so I figured what better time to do another show than now! In this episode Mike and I talk about how we first met — when Mike worked as a publicist for a major record label. A real friendship grew when I off-handedly mentioned to Mike I would be delayed on some stories I was working on for him due to losing my job in 2012, and how it was impacting my already not-so awesome mental health. Mike, without any hesitation, offered his advice and his ear, and from there we became great friends.
The episode also touches upon Mike’s work with the charitable Mindful Vinyl group, his work in the music industry, his residency on Radio Free Brooklyn, and our usual tangential thoughts on Woodstock 50, Mike’s attraction to Chris O’Donnell, the Rock + Roll Hall of Fame, dad jokes, and more.
