April 25th was a sacred day for myself and diehard Marvel fans alike. It was the opening of Avengers: Endgame, and like everyone, for nearly a year I was eagerly and anxiously awaiting the film’s release to show us what would happen after “The Snap.”
And boy, it didn’t disappoint.
Endgame is truly everything I could have wanted as a fan … and more. From the characters to the plot, to the big fight sequence — Endgame gave fans something we have been waiting for a decade and more to see — the conclusion to a saga that began more than a decade ago.
While remaining spoiler free, as Thanos has demanded my silence, Endgame is really about the core Avengers (Cap, Tony, Thor, Natasha, et. al) and how they have grown over the decade. We have seen them love, fight, and truly become a family and in the end this is what Endgame was really all about — the familial bond between our heroes.
It’s hard to talk about Endgame without spoiling much, but what I will say is this is truly Robert Downey Jr.’s film. Downey gives the performance of a lifetime. His performance shows just how much he loves this role while also documenting how much Tony Stark, as a character, has grown. I know some fans may say Captain America is the leader of the Avengers, but in my eyes, Stark truly is and this film proves exactly why.
In addition to Downey, the entire cast really rises up to the occasion. Chris Evans is perfect, and surprisingly very funny, as Captain America. Paul Rudd really holds his own against everyone in this film, truly fighting to be the main comic relief along with Rocket Raccoon and Thor. The main and supporting cast from top to bottom is just all kinds of special and amazing to behold.
While the film may end up having some flaws to fans, (I mean you can’t please everyone) Avengers: Endgame is exactly the sendoff fans deserve and need. This film is about the main Avengers, the ones we have grown with and watched for over a decade. This is their Endgame, so buckle up because it is one emotional, but utterly beautiful, ride.
