P!NK at MSG Solidifies Her Status as Queen of Live Performance

Pop Break Live: P!NK ‘Beautiful Trauma World Tour 2019’ at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

When you have been going to concerts for the last decade it’s hard to still be genuinely surprised anymore. I’ve seen Daft Punk rise from the stage at a Phoenix concert and Michael J. Fox join Coldplay for covers of ‘Johnny B. Goode’ and ‘Earth Angel’ at MetLife Stadium. These humble brags are only meant to say that at this point in my concert going career, I thought I’ve seen it all. That all changed when I was given the chance to see P!NK at Madison Square Garden, where I was surprised once more with one of the most unbelievable musical experiences of my life.

P!NK has been a household name since I could remember. Unlike most artists from the ’90s, she has never had to reinvent her self to stay relevant. She’s got a laundry list of hit songs and if you have ever seen her perform on awards show before, you know that she is a true daredevil when it comes to incorporating acrobatics into her act. Knowing all of this, I was extremely excited to see her live and in person for the first time.

But before the theatrics began Julia Michaels kicked things off with an incredible opening set. After first making a name for herself by writing songs for artists like: Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Shawn Mendes, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber, Michaels is now a pop star in her own right with her song “Issues” becoming a chart topping and Grammy nominated hit. She successfully got the sold out crowd at Madison Square Garden fired up for what was to come.

As the lights went up and the giant pink current came crashing down their was P!NK suspended in midair, hanging on to a giant pink chandelier. As she started singing the words to “Get The Party Started” the entire arena went crazy as P!NK performed the entire song while flying and flipping through the air. It wouldn’t be the last time this would happen that night. Far from it.

She played through her massive catalog of hit songs (full set-list below) and played some new songs from her latest album, Hurts 2B Human. But the real reason this show is a must see is the production value. The entire theme of the stage changed multiple times during the night. One moment, P!NK is flying through the air while fighting a giant inflatable Eminem and the next she’s singing “Just Give Me A Reason” while floating through the air on a bed.

After every song I was wondering how she could possibly top herself. It wasn’t until she returned for her first encore song where that question was finally answered. For “So What” P!NK, who was wearing a circular harness, walked to the middle of the stage where she was attached to multiple cables. She was then lifted into the air and proceeded to fly through entire are while singing. It was truly unbelievable and I have yet to recover from it.
