Comic Review: No One Left to Fight #1

No One Left to Fight is published by Dark Horse Comics. It is written/co-created by Aubrey Sitterson with art/co-creation by Fico Ossio.

Recently, I got to interview Aubrey Sitterson before the comic’s debut. This is a comic I’ve been waiting for. As I said in my interview piece (which you should read), I have a lot of interests, with comics and anime ranking in the top 2, though I’m not sure which would take the #1 spot. Depends on what’s out, really. Anyway, the point is I really like anime and I really like comics, and yes, I’m aware manga exists, I read a lot of that too, but while there can be definite similarities drawn and in Western culture manga is classified as “comics or graphic novels created in Japan”, the two are also incredibly different. So when I find comics, like this one, that remind me of manga or manga that remind me of comics, I can’t help but feel really happy and excited.

I’m going to quote myself here with the description: No One Left to Fight is for comic and anime fans, whether you like one or both of those things, you’ll like this comic. Because this comic asks the question no one ever asks, what happens when the final battle is over? Like, really over? When another Frieza or Shishio or Dio doesn’t show back up? What happens when the world is finally, truly at peace and there’s….*removes sunglasses* no one left to fight?

When the comic starts, Vâle has already saved the world. Timór and Krysta, who were companions of his, are married and they have two rambunctious kids named Tay and Tor. There’s an immediate tension between Vâle and Timór due to 2 things: 1. Vâle is the one who saved the planet and 2. Vâle definitely has a thing for Krysta. I mean, the second one alone would cause issues for any normal pair of people. Timór’s jealous only gets worse when he hears his own children arguing over who gets to be Vâle in a pretend fight. All of this drama is happening (in Timór’s mind, at least) while Vâle is having, well, I’m not really sure what they are. At first it seemed like hallucinations of his own desired future, but then there was stuff that was clearly from the past, so I’m not sure if it’s PTSD or alternate realities or what. It is only issue #1, after all.

Aubrey Sitterson and Fico Ossio clearly understand both the anime and comic genre well, so I have high hopes for this series. I can just hear the voice of Kyle Hebert saying “Next month in, No One Left to Fight…” and giving us a teaser that tells us nothing but gets us super pumped regardless.

OVERALL SCORE: 8.5 / 10

Make sure you pick up No One Left to Fight #1 from your local comic shop!

Happy reading!
