Naomi is published by DC Comics under their Wonder Comics imprint. It is written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, with art by Jamal Campbell.
I’m not really sure what all to say about this issue because, to be honest, I’m not really sure what just happened. That’s not something I should be saying when it comes to the conclusion of a mini-series. Yes, Naomi will continue “in the pages of DC Comics and Naomi 2” but we don’t even have an idea of when Naomi 2 is coming. This mini-series began an entire story and didn’t even scratch the surface, which is cool and all, but literally NOTHING got resolved in Naomi #6. It’s a cliffhanger ending without even a hint as to when we’re even going to continue the story, let alone finish it.
*WARNING: THIS IS THE LAST ISSUE OF THIS MINI-SERIES AND THIS REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS*
Last issue, the big bad guy, Zumbado, showed up at the very end. This issue, Naomi, without hesitation, follows him to the world she’s really from. He’s acting nice and claims he was sent by Akira (the one who saved her as a baby) but Naomi knows who he is – her abruptly punching him in the face is probably the best part of the issue – and while she’s angry and has super powers, Zumbado has had his a lot longer and he can control them a lot better.
Not to mention she has no idea how to fight. So what exactly did she think was going to happen by following him? Luckily she’s saved, but Zumbado makes it very clear he’s coming for Earth. So this issue ends with our cast of characters discussing training for Naomi and preparing for Zumbado to come.
That’s seriously how it ends.
Now, this doesn’t mean it was a bad issue or anything. Was the fight between Naomi and Zumbado cool? Yes, but it was too brief. Are Naomi’s parents and Dee still super badass? Definitely, but they didn’t get to do much. Is Annabelle still amazing comic relief who I continue to fall in love with? Absolutely. But I’m not satisfied with this abrupt drop off. I need more. I know it’s a good thing that fans want more, but I can’t help feeling like Bendis and Walker could have given us a little more than they did to hold us over until Naomi returns. Oh well, at least we can stare at Jamal Campbell’s beautiful and feel more than satisfied by it.
OVERALL SCORE: 7 / 10
