SDCC Trailer Reaction: ‘The Witcher’ Looks Like Netflix’s Next Big Thing

One of the most hotly anticipated properties at San Diego Comic-Con this year was Netflix’s new series The Witcher.

Starring Henry Cavill, The Witcher is based on the series of short fantasy stories by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The stories spawned eventual novels, comic books, video games, and Polish films and a TV series (dubbed The Hexer). Now in 2019, Netflix has turned the source material into a high gloss series revolving around Geralt of Rivia (Cavill) a monster hunter, complete with training and body modification, develops supernatural abilities to battle beasts and evil beings…for a price.

According to the official description of the series on Wikipedia, this adaptation focuses on Geralt, “but when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

The series also stars Jodhi May (Last of the Mohicans), Freya Allan (Into the Badlands), Anya Chalotra (Sherwood), Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, Adam Levy (Gladiator), MyAnna Buring (Ripper Street), Mimi Ndiweni (Legend of Tarzan), and Lars Mikkelsen (Sherlock).

The trailer looks absolutely awesome evoking positive memories of Game of Thrones and a bloody and edgy Lord of the Rings. It definitely has the potential to being one of the next big things for Netflix. Henry Cavill looks absolutely awesome in this non-Superman role.

The Witcher hits Netflix later in 2019.
