Letter from the Editor: Pop Break’s 10th Anniversary Podcast

Dear Reader,

My name is Bill Bodkin. I am the editor-in-chief, co-founder, and owner of The Pop Break. Today, September 29, marks the Pop Break’s 10th Anniversary.

Today, is an emotional day. Pop Break is a day that celebrates the decade existence of something that has been an intrinsic part of my life. This site started out as a creative outlet for me, and it has morphed into something much bigger, and much more important. It has been with me through the best and worst times of my life. It has helped me (and others) land work that has paid our bills. It has helped me become a better writer, editor, boss, and person. It has expanded my horizons in every facet of pop culture. It has made me question, and readjust everything I’ve known about writing, editing, pop culture, and my own personal set of values. It had caused me massive frustration, and soaring joy.

I could not have done it without the people who have read this site, or the hundreds of writers, editors, and photographers who have contributed to this site.

I wanted to do something special to commemorate this event, so I knocked back an adult beverage and recorded a rare solo podcast to celebrate Pop Break’s 10th Anniversary. This episode of the Breakcast focuses on the site’s origins, my dad’s influence on the site, why Asbury Park is so important to the site, the real life impact it’s had on me, my often unspoken love and respect for the staff, the unfathomable accomplishments of the site, how I nearly stopped the site (a few times), and my love for Pop Break.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for keeping this site going for a decade. Thank you for the inspiration to take this site from being a mere vanity project and turning it into a respected digital magazine.

Thank you.
