The Masked Singer is on hiatus this week due to the World Series. So before we get into our Masked Singer Season 2 predictions, let’s recap from Week 3 and Week 4 that we missed. Remember each week on Pop Break, I’ll breaking down the contestants’ performances and clues, their possible identities, and who has been unmasked so far.
In week 3, we met The Eagle, The Flower, The Penguin, and The Fox.
The Flower sang “9 to 5” by Dolly Parton and executed it perfectly. The Flower is filled with soul and held such a high register which sent goosebumps and shivers down my spine. In Week 3’s clue package, she mentioned how she’s always been “extra” and “blossoms in any field she gets put in.” This could hint at a diverse career involving cooking, singing, being an actor, etc.
The Penguin performed the song “Middle” by Zedd featuring Maren Morris. In her clue package, she faced problems with her career and has been told she’s “not funny enough” and “dares to be different.” The package showed a “Hit List” mentioning a comedy club owner, a Hollywood casting director, an ex, and even added themselves. This star has dealt with personal struggle and thought their career was over. Although this song is incredibly hard to sing, the Penguin performed to the best of their ability and I believe that they can sing, but had a not so great song choice.
Next up, we have The Fox who took the stage singing “This Love” by Maroon 5. This contestant knows how to sing and is a seasoned performer. In his clue package it hinted that he may be worked with Robin Williams and Neil Patrick Harris and does “his best work at night.” The music that they used gave off some big super hero vibes, but it just seems like FOX is just trying to mislead its viewers. The Fox even ended his performance with a gracious bow, which leads me to believe this is a Broadway performer.
The Eagle sang “I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won’t Do That)” by Meatloaf. The clue package revealed that they always listened to other peoples’ stories, never their own which hinted at maybe a TV or radio talk show host. Their performance was interesting, and any viewer could know that this was not a well-known performer.
The Eagle was unmasked, and it was Dr. Drew Pinsky. This was a complete shocker to me; I never would’ve guessed this. The Eagle truly embodied everything this show is about: pushing it to the limit, giving it your all, and trying something you’ve never done before. I wholeheartedly believe if the pairing was done differently, the Eagle would still be on the show because he could actually sing! The costume was totally misleading, sending hints of maybe Bret Michaels.
My guesses for Week 3 are:
- The Flower is Patti Labelle. Hands down. I don’t even know why the judges are entertaining that it could be someone else.
- The Penguin could be Sherri Shepherd. I need more clues though before I solidify my guess.
- The Fox is Wayne Brady. I thought the Thingamajig was Wayne Brady but I’m retracting that statement.
Over the past three weeks, there was a structure to The Masked Singer Season 2. The 16 new contestants were divided into groups and vocally battled in Face-Offs, before the two lowest votes then competed in a Smackdown round. For viewers, it made us calm. It made me believe that Season 1 wasn’t just a free-for-all with no stakes, but a training ground for producers to create a better designed version of this freak show.
Well, that seemed to go out on the window on Wednesday (October 16) night, as Fox’s latest insane reality show reverted to its old ways. All contestants performed and the audience voted for its favorite singer, the one with the least would get the boot.
In Week 4 of The Masked Singer Season 2, Butterfly, Thingamajig, Skeleton, Black Widow, Flamingo and Leopard all performed for their lives in the game.
The Flamingo informs us in her package that went “from hood rat to Hollywood triple-threat” after a “wizard plucked her off her stoop and turned her into a star.” (Okay..?) Then, she sang Kenny Loggins “Footloose” and the crowd went absolutely nuts. We heard more of her tone this week, but I know that voice from anywhere and it was such a staple of my childhood—but more on that later.
The flamboyant and royal Leopard is back and performed “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes. He absolutely crushed it! In his package, it is revealed that he “wasn’t born a winner” and “wasn’t even wanted” as a child. Compared to his first performance, it wasn’t as eventful. However, one can’t ignore how much he can hit his low register and it just further shows that this singer is in it to win it. In their post-performance clue, he admits that he once served fast food and now, it gets even weirder.

Black Widow turns out a solid rendition of Carrie Underwood’s staple “Before He Cheats.” Their package didn’t reveal much this week but only that she had a wholesome image ever since she was young. The Black Widow also mentioned she is known for her “voice and ba-donk-a-donk.” After her performance, she reveals that she never went to prom but “pretended to.” After that amazing performance, I know exactly who it is.
The Skeleton has been a tough bone to crack, but he doles clues about playing second fiddle and sometimes feeling like he’s a deadbeat dad who has “joint custody,” due to his sidekick status. A big clue comes with the contestant’s statement about how being in the background let him “be more instrumental in orchestrating those around” him. He rocks the stage with a surprise choice of Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl.”
Thingamajig pulls at everyone’s heart strings this week with his rendition of “Rainbow” by Kacey Musgraves. Everyone’s favorite seven-foot doll fills us in that while growing up, his parents taught him not to “run with the bulls.” He mentions for his final clue was that his “darkest moment was when he went to rehab.” Although this could mean rehab for alcohol or drugs, but I think this is a play on words and is really physical therapy. Next performance, I hope it’s more upbeat and we get to see another side of the soft Thingamajig.
The Butterfly performed “Livin on a Prayer” made famous by none other than Bon Jovi. She has been “waiting in her cocoon” and needs a “rebirth.” At the height of her fame, she had everyone “saying her name.” The judges made an interesting guess thinking that it could be Twiggy or Leona Lewis, given the London imagery. There is no way I’m ruling out Michelle Williams, though.
Ultimately, the Skeleton fell victim to the vote and was sent home. Paul Shaffer was unmasked and it all made complete sense. Shaffer, in addition to being the longtime band-leader and sidekick to David Letterman, is a veteran of the music industry, so it ever occurred to me that he might not be able to sing.
Jenny McCarthy has been killing it this season and correctly guessing two contestants so far and we’re only four weeks in. I’m surprised because in the first season she got two in the whole show’s duration.
My guesses for Week 4:
- The Flamingo is still Adrienne Bailon.
- The Leopard could be either Seal or Jamie Foxx. I think in ways he sounds like Foxx, but Seal fits the height that this performer has. Unless Foxx is wearing some incredible platform shoes, which I wouldn’t be surprised.
- Black Widow is without a doubt Raven Symone. After her final clue, I distinctly remembered that there was a prom-themed episode of That’s So Raven.
- I know I thought that the Thingamajig was Wayne Brady but I’m bringing this statement back. It’s Victor Oladipo.
- The Butterfly is Michelle Williams.
The remaining celebrities-in-disguise are all legitimately decent-to-amazing singers. After this week, we’re going to have some serious competition and I hope that The Masked Singer Season 2 goes into its original structure that they established in the first three weeks. It felt more like a competition rather than a free-for-all and I really enjoyed the Smackdown aspect. It was more fair to the contestants and really added a more-fun flare to the show. Until next week, let’s hope the World Series doesn’t go to game seven!
