Rhett Titus might be act like an arrogant, self-absorbed bad guy in Ring of Honor, but the New Jersey native is anything but that in real life. An absolutely shredded veteran of the ring, Titus is one of the coolest, and most open wrestlers to speak with. His attitude, and his hard work has propelled him to heights working with Ring of Honor where he captured the tag belts with Kenny King, and got him in front of a sold-out Madison Square Garden in April.

We caught up with him at Stand Alone Wrestling’s Fright Night Fights to talk about Daniel Bryan, his dream ROH opponent and an important New Jersey question.

We’re stoked to be standing here with former ROH Tag Champion, Mr. Rhett Titus. Thank you for a few minutes, how are you man?

Hey boys, what’s going on. We’re ready for some Friday Night Fights here! Thanks for having me on!

So you’re a Jersey guy, I have to ask …. Taylor Ham or Pork Roll ?

Well, that’s a funny question. I actually grew up Taylor Ham, egg and cheese. [I had it] almost every day, but now I’m a Vegetarian. So no pork roll anymore. One of these days they’re going to have to come up with a veggie version of pork roll. But I don’t crave meat. I don’t crave steak. I don’t crave chicken. None of that. But if I do crave one thing, it’s a Taylor Ham, egg and cheese sandwich.

We are here at Stand Alone Wrestling’s Friday Night Fights, and I believe your taking on the DILFBOI (Daltano) tonight. You’re a seasoned athlete here. Any strategy going into this one?

Taking on the Doof Boy tonight! I think I’ll just try to make it out alive. You know, he’s a young up and comer here from the Jersey area. But he may just get hit with a Big Dawg Boot and that may just be the end of it!

We always like to talk about origin stories. How did you get involved with the business? And correct me if I’m wrong, I believe you trained with Daniel Bryan and Austin Aires?

Yes. Actually I grew up in Jersey a little bit south of here. I grew up in Lacey Township but now I live in Manahawkin. I always went to indie wrestling shows as a kid. I remember going to my first ECW show when I was six years old at the arena. I was like ‘this ECW stuff is so much better than that WWF stuff on TV.’ But I still watched [WWE] because we watched as much wrestling as we could as kids.

So then Ring of Honor had their first show and I was like, wow! Eddie Guerrero was going to be there. Steve Corino was going to be there. I had to get there. I went there and I never saw wrestling like that before. They way the guys were hitting so hard and dropping each other on their heads, it really lit my love for pro wrestling. When the time came for me to become a pro wrestler it was like there was only one place I wanted to be and that was Ring of Honor. So that’s exactly where I went. I got trained by Daniel Bryan and Austin Aires and the rest is history.

You mentioned Eddie Guerrero. You’ve wrestled a lot of great wrestlers so far. Is there anyone in ROH or anywhere else that you’d like to wrestle?

Right now it’s Jonathan Gresham. I’m actually wrestling him at Future of Honor on December 14. That’s a match I’ve been wanting one on one. I’ll be defending the Maryland Championship Title against him that night. So it’s gonna be a big match and I’m really looking forward to it.

I see a lot of these young indie guys hanging around you here. What advice do you have for these up and comers?

Stay hungry and stay humble. No one likes somebody who thinks they’re bigger than their britches. As long as you get up everyday with the same fire and passion that you started with, you’ll be good my man.
