Last night was The Walking Dead Season 10 Midseason Finale, and I’ve got to say this has been one of the most refreshing, interesting seasons in recent years. It hasn’t felt like a “oh no it’s a filler episode” (even the filler episodes this season have been enjoyable) filled season. We’ve got great character development, suspenseful moments, and walker mayhem that made it feel as good as watching some of the earlier seasons of the series.

Let’s begin with tonight’s opening scene before the credits — Dante’s history. Man it was incredible! We got to see how Dante got accepted into Alexandria, sabotaged the water supply, suffocate Cheryl (from last week’s episode), and back to present time after he killed Siddiq. Rosita comes to check up on Siddiq, but is greeted by Dante. She seems unsure of why he’s there, then hears Siddiq’s undead self wake up. As she backs up from the area, Dante approaches her with a knife, she puts down her baby and then Dante attacks her, she manages to stab Dante causing him to back down just in enough time for her to take down Siddiq before he gets their child. This really bothers Father Gabriel that Dante slipped through them undetected for months. He goes back to the interview tapes to see if there was any clues to that he shouldn’t of been trusted but just couldn’t find it. As he visits Dante in the jail cell, he snaps and stabs Dante multiple times, and burns the body later in the evening.

Aaron is back at the spot he always saw Gamma, and once again she shows back up and asks to see her nephew (the baby that Alpha told Gamma’s sister to abandon since it was crying, alerting walkers to them) in for exchange of the location of Alpha’s herd. Once Aaron notifies this to Darryl and Carol, they decide to go where Gamma says it should be located.

Michonne, Judith, and Luke meet a new person (first at the library, then at Oceanside when they tried stealing a boat from the docks). He’s trying to get back to his family on an island, and asks to use a boat to get back to his family. They strike a deal to help him out in exchange for potential weapons he says he has that could help them with hopefully taking down the whisperers once and for all.

I really hope that tonight’s episode isn’t the last episode with Danai Gurrira because that just seems kind of cheap/a ripoff for her character to set sail with a newly introduced character. I know she’s mentioned that she’s planning on leaving the show soon, but hopefully we’ll see her in the second half of season two.

The ending of The Walking Season 10 Midseason Finale was interesting with Carol seeing Alpha where Gamma said the herd should be. But, as she and Daryl chasing after them, they go into a cave and that was a trap. They fell down further into the cave, and down there is intact Alpha’s herd. Thought that was kind of a cheesy way to reveal the herd because wouldn’t you think that those that fell to the trap would of shouted to Darryl to stay away and not end up where they’re at. Regardless it was still great to see this herd to know how dangerous the Whisperers can be to the survivors.

Thought this first half of the season was a great way to build up a promising intense second half next February!

Rating: 7 out of 10
