No Need To Turn Back Time: Cher Is As Fabulous As Ever in 2019

Pop Break Live: Cher “Here We Go Again Tour” with Nile Rodgers and Chic at The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA

Cher, a woman who needs no introduction, brought her Here We Go Again Tour to Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on December 6.

Nile Rodgers And Chic opened for this sold-out show. Darlings of the disco world back in the ’70s, Nile Rodgers And Chic produced some of the best known songs from that era such as “Good Times,” “Dance Dance Dance (“Yowsah Yowsah Yowsah),” “Everybody Dance,” and “I Want Your Love.” Cher couldn’t have picked a better band to get the party started.

The show had everything you’d expect from a Cher performance. There were many elaborate sets and countless costume changes. She was backed by a fantastic band and a troupe of dancers that were extraordinary. Cher (wearing a blue wig and a glitzy blue dress) started the night off strong with a double punch of songs for the ladies with “Woman’s World” and”Strong Enough.”

The set was a nice mix of old and new. Wearing a pair of sparkly bell bottoms and long straight hair she looked like she was just plucked off the set from a Sonny and Cher show. She performed “The Beat Goes On” and “I Got You Babe.” It was a really touching moment as Bono appeared via a video screen and sang his parts of the songs.

Having released the album Dancing Queen, a cover of Abba songs in 2018, she thrilled the crowd with her versions of “Waterloo,” “SOS,” and “Fernando.” Cher  sang “After All,” her Academy Award nominated duet song with Peter Cetera and also her 1987 hit “I Found Someone.” Dressed in an outfit that was similar to the one she wore in the famous video she taped on the Navy ship USS Missouri, she ended her set with “If I Could Turn back Time.” She encored with the Grammy winning song “Believe.”

At her age Cher shows no sign of slowing down. Within the last four weeks alone she debuted her perfume Cher Eau de Couture and then rocked the Dancing With The Stars Finale with a special performance. She is an Oscar, Grammy and Emmy winner. She is also still very much the badass but is also a big-hearted philanthropist, a women’s rights activist and a true trailblazer. As far back as the ’60s, she helped pave the way for women in music by staying true to herself. You can safely say she is owed a debt of gratitude from the woman in music.

Her performance for this show was nothing short of spectacular. At 73 Cher is still an inspiration on so many levels to her many generations of fans around the globe. Cheers to one of the most beloved iconic performers of our time!
