Fargo (FX – 2014-Present)

Is it actually possible to adapt a modern classic film by the Coen Bros. into an exceptional and riveting television series? Aww, you betcha!

With an entirely new story and set of characters each season, Fargo blends dark comedy and crime drama like no other anthology series that’s out there. Each installment features amazing ensemble casts, with Billy Bob Thornton, Kirsten Dunst, and Ewan McGregor among others doing some of the best work of their careers.

Show runner Noah Hawley (also of Legion) deserves enormous credit for tying the show not only to its source material, but to the same timeline and universe as each other. And like the eponymous film, Fargo reminds us that greed and violence can sometimes permeate small-town America when we least expect it. It’s storytelling as beautiful and chilling as the harsh Minnesota winter, especially when the snow turns red.
