Pentatonix Deck The Halls (of The Met in Philly) with A Capella

Three time Grammy winning a capella group Pentatonix played Philadelphia’s Metropolitan Opera House on December 16th. They are currently on a 16 date tour in support of their newest release, The Best of Pentatonix Christmas. This hits compilation also includes four new tracks as well.

The group starting turning heads back in 2011 when they won the third season of the TV show Sing-Off and it’s been a steady climb since. Along they way they’ve won three Grammy awards and currently have over 4 billion views on their YouTube Channel.

Pentatonix played many holiday fan favorites during their set that included such songs as “Little Drummer Boy,” “Carol of the Bells,””Mary Did you Know,” “Jingle Bells,” and a sassy version of “You’re a Mean One, Mr Grinch.”

One of the biggest highlights of the night was their performance on “Making Christmas,” a song from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. It was wildly entertaining! Their rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” was really beautiful. Fans were also treated to some incredible covers that really stood out which included The Beach Boys “God Only Knows” and John Lennon’s “Imagine.” One of the loudest responses of the night came on Kevin Olusola’s cello/beatbox number….incredible!

Besides hearing some “out of this world” harmonies the show was a lot of fun. There were many laughs along the way. Some of the members walked through the crowd and a lucky few actually had Happy Birthday sung to them by the group. This was such a great feel good show and the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit!
