There will be spoilers in this review from the current season.

I hope you’ve been watching this season of Doctor Who because we got to see the resurrection of The Master over the previous two episodes. If you’re like me and you’ve been watching for years you know the Master is The Doctor’s arch-nemesis, and it was only a matter of time before he made an appearance again.

To catch you up, Gallifrey was attacked by The Master. This devastated The Doctor and it was evident as all her companions knew there was something very wrong. At the same time, the companions all got to learn a little more about her. As a result the crew of the TARDIS decides to take a rest by going to a resort that is all-inclusive. Once getting on the planet everything looks lovely. There are other people on holiday as well and everything is peaceful. The End.

Obviously I’m lying. Shortly after arriving at the resort Ryan (Tosin Cole) gets infected by a hopper virus. And, things quickly begin to fall apart. The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) immediately steps into action to meet with the people running the resort to bring this hacking to their attention. After bringing this to the attention of security, well, things escalate even more and we discover the truth behind the planet. We learn about the native aliens there, and not everyone lives.

You’ll just have to watch the episode to find out the twist, trust me, it’s a very important message.

There are some very notable things about ‘Orphan 55.’ There’s quite a lot of guest appearances from some familiar faces — among them are James Buckley (The Inbetweeners), and Julia Foster (Richard III). And, you’ll get to meet an all-new monster called The Dregs. The work on these monsters is phenomenal. Good luck not having nightmares. Overall I’ve enjoyed this season with Whittaker more than the previous.

This episode really touched on a lot of classic Whovian notes that I think all fans will appreciate and enjoy. And, leaves the possibility for some newly introduced characters to come back.

Rating: 8/10

Doctor Who Season 12 Episode 3, ‘Orphan 55’ is currently on demand, check your local cable provider, and will re-run on BBC America.
