First off: We have new theme music! Pantera’s “I’m Broken” replaces Dokken’s “Into the Fire.” [Editor’s Note: RIP, “Into the Fire.”]
Joe Galli’s special guest at the podium is none other than Tim Storm! After the chants for “Mama Storm!” die down, he tells Joe Galli that his upcoming match against Thom Latimer is about more than his ongoing feud with the Strictly Business faction. No. Despite having a bitter history with Nick Aldis’ stable, he wanted a match with the former Bram because he’s an absolute beast and quality competition is what he needs if he’s ever going to convince the NWA to let him compete for the heavyweight title again.
This brings out Latimer and his lady, Kamille. Latimer tells Storm to give up his pipe dream as he gave up all rights to challenge for the title when he lost a stipulation match to Nick Aldis. Before he can retort, Joe Galli gets a notification on his earpiece that Mama Storm is here! The crowd pops for this but sours once “Mama Storm” is revealed to be a man dressed as an old woman with a walker. “Mama Storm” tries to convince Tim to hang up his boots with a bunch of faux-anecdotes about his upbringing during the days of Frank Gotch. Tim says he doesn’t pass judgement on the guy for his choice of attire but doesn’t need to stand there and listen to it so he walks off.
Matt Cross vs Caleb Konley
Ricky Starks is with our announce team of Stu Bennett and Joe Galli to scout the potential competition for his NWA TV Title. If this were Impact’s X-Division or Ring of Honor with more time and emphasis on high spots, I have no doubt this would have been more “star-worthy” but it was still a superbly paced and performed match. Both men have that modern hybrid style with Matt Cross a true veteran and Caleb Konley coming into his own after a few years in Impact. The ending sees Matt Cross hitting a Shooting Star Press for the pinfall and mutual show of respect afterwards with a handshake.
Winner: Matt Cross
Last week’s sit-down between Nick Aldis and “The Villain” Marty Scurll is recapped where Aldis offers a shot at the NWA World’s Heavyweight Championship to Marty on one condition: If he loses, Marty refunds every seat in attendance that night. This week, the champion is alone at his kitchen counter asking The Villain why he hasn’t given an answer. He’s open to negotiation if Marty wants to make a counter-offer but he needs to realize that it has to be big. Either way, they’ll meet at Ring of Honor’s Free Enterprise show this Sunday and they can discuss it there!
You're warned… Eddie Kingston is pure🔥🔥🔥 right now#NWAPowerrr – https://t.co/7ZzRO2hbyX

The Pope brings is at David Marquez’s podium with his new clients, The Dawsons. Marquez wants to know what’s up with Pope, The Dawsons, Eddie Kingston, and Homicide. Pope says that The Dawsons stepped up where Kingston & Homicide fell short. He doesn’t put the blame on Kingston but rather its Homicide with no shine on his star. Eddie Kingston comes out to say that he doesn’t have any ill intentions but warns Pope to never disrespect Homicide ever again as he owes everything to The Notorious 187. Eddie says that he’s got friends who are a little busy so he reached out for some new people: Brian Milonas and The Beer City Bruiser! Ring of Honor’s The Bouncers are here. An impromptu match is set up but never gets going as The Bouncer’s clobber The Dawsons as they try to enter the ring and Eddie Kingston is calling out The Pope as we cut away.
May Valentine has her own video blog, “May Valentine’s Diary.” She shows off her outfits, explains her attraction towards Royce Isaacs, and her feelings towards Royce’s jealousy issues over her newfound friendship with Sal Rinauro.
Aron Stevens (c) vs Trevor Murdoch for the NWA National Championship
Aron Stevens does what he does in the early goings on: get beat up and stall for time. When The Question Mark tries to back Trevor up on the outside of the ring, referee Mike Posey sends him to the back! The Mongrovian x-factor is out of the equation but the distraction gives Stevens the opportunity for a baseball slide dropkick and he continues to pour on low-risk but highly effective brawling (and a few eye pokes) to keep the big Texan down. Try as he may, he just can’t keep Murdoch down. Big Trev kicks out of pins and keeps beating the ten count back into the ring. When Murdoch finally manages to rally, the clock is ticking down on the match’s time limit. David Marquez calls the match just as Murdoch looks to ascend the turnbuckles for his flying bulldog… but he goes for it anyway and plants the retaining (third degree) National Champion to the delight of the GPB Studios audience.
The result of this contest is a time limit draw.
Outlandish Zickey Dice has an offer for the NWA Powerrr audience: If they can add 100K subscribers on Youtube, he’ll do whatever we want (no matter how outlandish!)
Sean Mooney gives us an update on the goings on since Hard Times including how Kyle Davis’ interview with NWA Television Champion, Ricky Starks, has caught the attention of a major mattress manufacturer and that Melina is making arguments for a title shot at Thunder Rosa’s NWA Women’s Championship.
Eli Drake & “Cowboy” James Storm vs Josephus & Mims
The NWA tag champs make short work of Jocephus & Mims, ending on a tandem move: a fireman’s carry by Drake thrown off into a backstabber by Storm.
Winners: James Storm & Eli Drake
Thunder Rosa (c) vs Allysin Kay for the NWA Women’s Championship
Seemingly to the confusion of Stu Bennett, Melina has joined them at the announce table without a headset. Rosa and Allysin are going hold for hold and strike for strike throughout. Allysin Kay uses her size and strength advantage to bust out a few power moves like a big suplex. Rosa goes to her MMA and submission background, frequently attacking the right arm that she targeted at Hard Times. When Marti Belle comes out to ringside, neither Thunder Rosa nor Allysin Kay seem happy to see her and both urge her to get to the back. Ashley Vox and Tasha Steelz come out to ensure against any monkey business and all three women take up positions near the announce table. After kicking out of a Gory Special and Death Valley Driver, it’s a Stun Gun into a bridging schoolgirl rollup that finally does Allysin Kay in for the night. Thunder Rosa is still questioning Marti and Melina as the crowd chants “You Don’t Need Them!”
Winner and still NWA Women’s Champion: Thunder Rosa
Five Takeaways from from NWA Powerrr Episode 17
- The NWA women’s division is admittedly sparse but Thunder Rosa and Allysin Kay are probably the two best dance partners on the roster, perfectly suited to each other. This will grow stale sooner rather than later and some new blood would be welcome.
- That brings us to the Ring of Honor talent-sharing relationship that NWA seems to have going on. Some of the more popular pro wrestling Youtubers have more subscriptions than NWA. RoH can’t seem to get their feet back under them to where they were in their glory days of the mid-to-late aughts. Both have relatively thin rosters but both have stars and stars in the making. Getting some of the fans to crossover will hopefully be a huge uptick for both of them.
- Zickey Dice is looking like The Miz of NWA right now, meaning that he is willing to do whatever is needed at any time. His character can job four-out-of-five times and still get him over. Billy and Dave seem to recognize this as he’s been on TV in one fashion or another every week since his debut.
- I’m not the biggest Eddie Kingston fan but I am a fan and what he’s doing right now to strengthen the under/middle card is to be saluted. He’s a great talker and believable as they come. If the plan is to make The Dawsons, he’ll get the job done. If the plan is to get The Pope over as a heel, then the same. The only thing missing is that there doesn’t seem to be any kind of death match opportunity here and, if Homicide comes back to ally with Pope, it would be expected.
- Five titles are being defended on NWA Powerrr these days. There seems to be more emphasis on the TV than the National Title and the 6:05 time limit seems like it’s more tailor-made for sneaky heel work. I’ll trust them for now but I’m a little wary of how they can mix and match from here on out.
