Marc Maron ‘The End Times Fun’ (Netflix, 2020)
Written by Sean Cordy
While I have been watching a few episodes of my favorite TV shows like Seinfeld, Community, and 30 Rock, I’ve actually spent the most time watching Marc Maron’s latest Netflix special Marc Maron: End Times Fun.
After hearing Maron’s process on his WTF podcast, I had been anxiously anticipating its release for over a year. When it finally dropped, I was a little let down, writing it off as little more than his podcast ramblings right down to exact phrases. However, after awhile I realized what makes it so re-watchable even after four viewings.
This is Maron at his peak featuring rambling thoughts on a future that doesn’t seem all that different as we contemplate the (even momentarily) end of the world as we know it. Even his X-rated final bit featuring Mike Pence and Jesus that I initially wrote off as a bit immature, even for Maron’s standards, comes together in the end as a sardonic sendup of the end times where even if the world was ending, someone would still find a way to be mad that Iron Man was brought back in Avengers 8.
Marc Maron: End Times Fun is now currently streaming on Netflix.
