Dispatches from Elsewhere (AMC, 2020-Current)
Written by Tom Moore
In this time of disarray and worry, there’s no better way to escape some of the doom and gloom than to be wrapped up in AMC’s new mystery series Dispatches from Elsewhere.
The series follows a group of people with different personal struggles and motivations who find themselves ensnared into a mysterious chess match between a rebellious clan called the Elsewhere Society and a mysterious institute run by a strangely charismatic leader.
While it might only be halfway through its season so far, Dispatches from Elsewhere already checks all the boxes in what makes an intriguing new must-see.
Inspired by the 2013 documentary, The Institute, the series blends reality and fantasy excellently as it takes viewers through a multi-layered conspiracy mystery filled with creative and engaging storytelling and genuinely heartfelt emotion. The characters are diverse in the interactions they have and in the characteristics that have drawn them to this strange game.
Not to mention, when you have an all-star cast made up of Jason Segel (who’s also producing, directing, and writing some of the series), Eve Lindley, Sally Field, Andre Benjamin (aka Andre 3000), and Richard E. Grant giving great and personal performances, you just can’t go wrong.
So, instead of getting wrapped up in a panic over the coronavirus, find an escape into the mystery of Dispatches from Elsewhere and with things really getting somewhere now that the series is at its hallway point, there’s no better time to catch up and start watching.
Dispatches from elsewhere is streaming for free on AMC’s website and app.
