Jim James, Fred Armisen Among Stars Appearing on ‘SuperUnknown’ Podcast

Written by Avani Goswami

Rock photographer and proclaimed “professional music fan” Dana Distortion has launched a new music podcast called SuperUnknown: Music You Don’t Know From The People You Do.

The podcast aims to bring listeners fresh music and play unreleased demos from various artists. Different musicians are featured every episode and provide a behind the scenes look at their creative processes.

The New York City-based podcast has gone remote amid COVID-19 concerns, but new episodes are still being released to give the artists a chance to open up about their music and reach out to their fans.

Guests so far have included:

  • Episode 1: Jim James of My Morning Jacket and Teddy Abrams, who talk about their musical collaboration.
  • Episode 2: Saturday Night Live and Portlandia alum Fred Armisen who gives fans an escape from the isolation, discussing music with a comedic twist.
  • Episode 3: Bassists David Ellefson of Megadeth and Frank Bello of Anthrax talking all things heavy metal and connected with other metal lovers via Zoom.

For those who have heard of Dana Distortion before, you’ve probably seen her published in Rolling Stone, BrooklynVegan, Billboard, SPIN, and numerous other publications. She’s also a DJ, filmmaker, designer, and alleged troublemaker on the New York City arts scene.

To discover unheard music and hear from the artists, stream SuperUnknown now on all podcast platforms (Spotify, Stitcher, Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud), including their new YouTube channel, SuperUnknown Podcast.
