Gruen (Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC) 2008-2019)
Written by Allison Lips
Sometimes the things that soothe our souls the most during these trying times can be found in the most unexpected of places. My great, binge-worthy escape is a series called Gruen from the Australian Broadcasting Company (ABC). The series began airing in 2008 and recently wrapped up its 11th season.
Gruen is an unlikely hit in Australia and practically unheard of here. It is a show about advertising and marketing featuring commercials from around the world and features four members of the Australian advertising industry providing commentary, and it is hosted by comedian Will Anderson.
You might think a show like that shouldn’t be must-see TV, but somehow it works. Oh, it’s also hilarious and educational, which, as an MBA student and TV aficionado myself, it makes my nerdy heart happy. If you don’t believe me, check out Russel Howcroft pretending to be a bottle of milk and insisting he isn’t a generic bottle of milk in this clip!
Gruen can be streamed on iView.
