Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
Platform: Available on PS5 and Xbox Series X
Release Date: Coming late 2020
(as of right now it’s rumored to be released in October)
Norse Mythology is kind of in right now. The past few years we’ve watched Thor swing Mjolnir around countless times and helped Kratos stir up some Ragnarök. So it’s no surprise that Ubisoft has queued up some Viking hijinks for its next outing in the long running Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Valhalla finds protagonist Eivor on a quest to lead his/her Viking clan towards prosperity in England after leaving Norway in the late 9th Century. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, 2018’s Odyssey, you’ll be able to tailor Eivor to your specific play style with deep RPG mechanics and choices that influence how your personal story plays out.
With Ubisoft mostly continuing to move away from Assassin’s Creed being an annualized franchise, the past couple games have been given the time to get a little extra polish. Valhalla is shaping up to have a gorgeous lived-in world full of rich characters and historically accurate cities to get lost in. Not to mention the series now trademark naval combat and sci-fi present-day storyline, all with the power of next-gen hardware behind it. And I’m assuming a lot of axes. Who wouldn’t be excited for that?
