You’re in for a treat. Since Batman Forever and Batman Begins recently celebrated anniversaries (25th and 15th, respectively), Aaron and Josh Sarnecky are doing a special two-movie podcast covering the two films.
Batman Forever first released in theaters on June 16, 1995. Directed by Joel Schumacher (who passed away a week after this recording), Batman Forever stars Val Kilmer as Batman and introduces Chris O’Donnell as Robin. Tommy Lee Jones and Jimmy Carrey play the movie’s villains, Two-Face and the Riddler. Nicole Kidman serves as Bruce’s new love interest, Dr. Chase Meridian, while Michael Gough’s Alfred bridges the gap between Burton and Schumacher. Batman Forever was a box office success, earning $336.5 million on a $100 million budget, but critical reactions were mixed.
Batman Begins hit theaters on June 15, 2005. Writer-director Christopher Nolan’s take on the Caped Crusader sees Christian Bale don the cowl while Liam Neeson and Cillian Murphy portray villains Ra’s al Guhl and Scarecrow. Michael Caine takes over as Alfred while Gary Oldman plays Sergeant Gordon. Rounding out the cast are Katie Holmes as Assistant DA Rachel Dawes and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox. Batman Begins was a critical and financial success, reeling in $371.8 million on a $150 million budget.
Josh and Aaron go all in on comparing the two movies. Topics include the performances, the films’ differing tones, and the love interests. The brothers also touch on how each movie goes about rebooting the franchise and where the films fall in their list of best Batman movies.
