As we all slowly adapt to what is now known as, “The New Normal” it is nearly impossible to be able to imagine going to live events the way we used to.
Fortunately for 22 parking spots worth of New Jersey wrestling fans, we were able to get that much closer to our beloved independent wrestling scene with Titan Championship Wrestling’s Drive in Brawl in Ocean Gate, New Jersey. That’s right — indie wrestling is back in New Jersey after three very long months.
TCW flawlessly followed social distancing guidelines monitored by local police while allowing twenty-two vehicles to pull into a one of a kind drive-in wrestling show. The show featured 16 matches with live commentary from broadcast on your car radio. In between every match, the entire ring would be wiped down and Lysol-ed by the ring crew. Refreshments were available for purchase and vendors tables were open.  All proceeds from the event went directly to the Ocean Gate EMS.
Before I get into the card, I would like to commend TCW’s Billy Fetzke and Charles Delutri for putting a stellar, and more importantly very safe event.
As soon as we all removed our caps for the National Anthem (no I’m not getting political) it truly felt for a second like I was back in the arenas or the ballparks.  Afterwards, when I heard that first ring bell, and the crowd echo, “one fall” … I knew that indie wrestling had truly never left.
TCW was able to incorporate many other organizations and their respective titles into the event including ICW, LTW, Chad Minnes’ Stand Alone Wrestling and more. The highlight match of the evening had to be the fatal four way elimination match to declare the first ever TCW Goddess Champion. The match featured The Vivacious Vicki, Gemma Giuliana, Debbie Kane, and the Notorious Mimi. I was very surprised at how quickly Vicki and Kane were eliminated from the match, but this gave Gemma and Mimi plenty of time to wow the crowd. The two exchanged kicks and more chops than a butcher shop. Ultimately, Mimi would hit a running kick to put away her opponent. Your new and first-ever TCW Goddess Champion, The Notorious Mimi! No doubt the sky is the limit for Mimi, and rumor has it there are some big things in store for the TCW Goddess Division.
In Stand Alone Wrestling action, Shawn Donavan was able to retain his SAW Heavyweight Championship against the always impressive Anthony Bennett best known for his spot in the WWE Cruiserweight Classic.
New champs were also crowned in the LTW Tag Division as the super creepy Wyatt-Esque Team of The Rejects were able to capture the gold from A.O.D.
Our Pal Frankie Pickard who always seems to be carrying gold, was able to retain his IWA BreakThrough Championship against a dream opponent of his with the legendary Magic. The match was short but fun including several punches with a Snickers Bar. It was nuts (sorry)! Frankie hit a quick DDT and ended the match surprisingly early. Magic explained that he needs to get his cardio up, but Frankie had nothing but complimentary things to say about Magic who he called a dream opponent. A great show of respect by two amazing competitors.
Comedy match went to the very impressive Stan Sylez and Ty Thomas. “Extra Creamy” Stan Stylez really won over the crowd with the thrice removed pull away pants spot and what I can best describe as a Whipped Cream Stone Cold Stunner for the win
Also gotta give a quick shout to the Dilf, Dilfboy Daltono who’s been putting in the work both in the ring and behind the scenes. He hit a killer tope suicida in the opening contest.
The show went next level, when KC Navarro took on Blaxstrom. Let’s just say this right now. KC Navarro is going to be on your television every single week in the very near future. The kid is ultra-talented and super humble. I can’t say enough good things about him. Even when he’s being a heel it’s hard to not cheer for him as I clearly saw today. Let’s just say we were all truly #Blessed by this match when KC picked up the impressive win.
The main event was a pretty epic Extreme Rules match between the chain-wielding Ghost Rider-esque Violence versus Waylon Cage. This one featured some really cool extreme rules spots, but went the extra mile when a truck (Billy Fetzke) came driving down the street blaring its horn. Out of nowhere Johnny Jager came out of the truck and did the ol’ heel turn to betray Violence. Cage and his now growing faction were able to get the big win to end the night. I have to say that truck spot was awesome and reminded me of some of the stuff you see on TV.
This was not your local high school gym indie show. This was something more. And more importantly it was for a great cause. All I have to say is thank you TCW for bringing wrestling back to New Jersey.Check out TCW’s next event July 11th back at Ocean Gate Volunteer EMS for a bring your own chair event. Follow TCW on Facebook for more details: https://www.
