TV Break June 2020: HBO MAX’s Legendary, Police Procedurals & The New Bachelor

Pop Break’s Television Editor Alex Marcus is joined by editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin, and senior columnist Josh Sarnecky to talk about the happenings in television.

Here’s the format of the show:

The Best Thing I Saw on TV Last Month – Alex, Bill, and Josh talk about a show/episode/event we liked from the last month including: Disney+ and BBC Australia’s hit series Bluey, The Good Place, Snowpiercer, and HBO’s first original series Love Life.

The News You Need to Know – Alex, Bill, and Josh discuss the Black Lives Matter Movement and its impact on television — the future of police procedurals and law enforcement dramas, the cancellation of Live P.D. and Cops, and the announcement of the first black Bachelor.

Streaming Wars – Alex, Bill, and Josh picks a streamer they think “won the month” based on new shows airing/upcoming shows announced etc. and whether it was Disney Plus, Netflix, Amazon, or another streaming platform that came out on top.

Featured Review – Alex, Bill, and Josh review the new HBO MAX reality competition series Legendary — a series inspired by and featuring houses from the ballroom scene competing for the title of Superior House.

Previous Episodes Include:

May’s Episode: The fifth episode sees the trio discussing COVID-19 related storylines in modern television, who won the streaming wars, and Damien Chazelle’s jazz drama The Eddy.

April’s Episode: The fourth episode finds the gang once again discussing Hulu, but this time with Mrs. America – the all-star ensemble piece about the second wave of feminism. They also look at J.J. Abram’s massive deal with HBO MAX, and who won the streaming wars.

March’s Episode: On the third episode the gang discusses FX on Hulu’s mind-bending series Devs, the third season of Westworld, Alex’s heavy rotation of content he binged, plus how quarantine is impacting the television world and how we watch it.

February’s Episode: The second installment looks at the Hulu comedy/drama High Fidelity, the low Oscar ratings, why Disney Plus won the February streaming wars and the lads give you a number of shows to check out.

The Debut Episode: The premiere episode of TV Talk looks at HBO’s new thriller The Outsider, who won the streaming wars in the first month of the year, the gang’s reactions to the announcement of NBC’s streaming service Peacock, and what you should be watching from January. All this and a singalong!
