This month, The Anniversary Brothers are back to celebrate the auspicious 2011 cult classic The Green Hornet

The Green Hornet is a superhero film based on the radio show of the same name. It was released in theaters on January 14, 2011. It was directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Superbad). It stars Seth Rogen as Britt Reid, a rich playboy who inherits his father’s newspaper company after his death. Britt decides to use his fortune to become the Green Hornet, a masked hero posing as a criminal. Kato (Jay Chou, Now You See Me 2), his father’s mechanic, serves as his crimefighting partner. Supporting roles include Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton) as Britt’s father James, Cameron Diaz (In Her Shoes) as Britt’s secretary Lenore Case, Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) as the drug kingpin Chudnofsky, David Harbour (Stranger Things) as District Attorney Scanlon, and Edward James Olmos (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as Axford, Britt’s number two at the Daily Sentinel.

The Green Hornet garnered a mixed reception from critics and moviegoers. While it did make $228 million worldwide, Sony considered the film’s budget of $120 million too expensive to warrant a sequel. Seth Rogen later remembered Sony’s management of the film as a “nightmare.”

In this podcast, Josh and Aaron talk about the movie’s plot, characters, action, and humor. They also discuss the film’s place in the superhero film genre and whether the Green Hornet character has a place in today’s pop culture, with a reboot reportedly in the works.

The Green Hornet is currently streaming on Netflix.
