Cody Rhodes on Shaq, New AEW TV Shows, The End of the Wednesday Night Wars? & More

Tonight, All Elite Wrestling presents a special episode of Dynamite entitled, ‘The Crossroads.’

While some may write this off as a nod or a wink to the finisher of Executive Vice President and one of the promotion’s biggest stars, Cody Rhodes — the company itself is standing at a literal crossroads.

The company is mere hours away from the much-talked about in-ring debut of NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal — their biggest celebrity, mainstream crossover to date. They are days away from their highly hyped Revolution PPV. AEW is possibly mere weeks before they have Wednesday nights fully to themselves. Factor in the launch of a new Monday series plus more AEW content to come as well as video games, the Forbidden Door being kicked in, and a possible return to touring — AEW is at the cusp of breaking through to the next level.

Cody Rhodes stands at the forefront of the company’s journey to these moments. He’ll be anchoring a tag match between himself and Red Velvet against Shaq and the debuting Jade Cargill. It’s a situation Rhodes has found himself in before — being the workhorse in a match featuring a celebrity (as he did with Stephen Amell in WWE) but also being at the pop culture forefront of the company handling press with pop culture and sports outlets for the match as well as carrying the AEW banner on the hit series Go Big Show on TBS.

Rhodes caught up with the media to discuss all of this. In a media call, Rhodes discussed:

  • His match with Red Velvet against Shaquille O’Neal and Jade Cargill
  • The use of celebrities within AEW
  • The Kenny Omega/Jon Moxley Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match
  • Name dropping death match legend Matt Tremont
  • The role and importance of Paul Wight in AEW
  • Representation in AEW
  • The future of Maki Itoh in AEW
  • The production of the AEW Eliminator Tournament in Japan
  • The AEW Revolution PPV
  • Being a “Little Stinger” as a kid
  • Sting’s role in the company
  • The potential of NXT moving to Tuesday
  • Pat McAfee
  • Fatherhood
  • AEW Dark: Elevation
  • The “third hour” of AEW on TNT
  • A new show in the works featuring AEW talent in the Warner Media world
  • Tournaments in AEW
  • His appreciation of trios
  • Scouting for AEW
  • Building stars
  • Tully Blanchard’s return to the ring
  • And more!

AEW Dynamite “Crossroads” featuring Cody Rhodes & Red Velvet vs. Jade Cargill and Shaq airs tonight on TNT and will open up the show.
