Thousands of live music lovers gathered at the Hacknesack Meridian Health Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey (fka The Count Basie Theater) on St. Patrick’s Day to enjoy a performance by Tedeschi Trucks Band.
Led by multiple Grammy Award nominee Susan Tedeschi and her husband Derek Trucks (Allman Brothers Band), the nine-piece ensemble of top-tier musicians delivered a powerfully inspired set of both covers and original music.
When the opening act Ponderosa Grove was done warming them up, Tedeschi captivated the crowd with her soulful vocals as she eased into the evening with a slow and emotional version of “Darlin’ Be Home Soon” (The Lovin’ Spoonful), before segueing into a rip-roaring “Signs, High Times.”
Over the course of 15 songs, the band skillfully showcased their incredible chemistry on stage- delving into crowd favorites such as “It’s So Heavy” and “Learn How To Love.” Trucks got a chance to crank it up a notch in a cover from his other touring act The Derek Trucks Band “Joyful Noise,” before taking them into an upbeat “I Want More.”
The crowd went wild as they segued from there into a familiar “Les Brers in A Minor ” (Allman Brothers Band), Trucks showing the crowd a glimpse of the fire his Giboson SG has burning inside.
Fans lit up their lighters as the band came back for an encore with a cover of “Let’s Go Get Stoned” (The Coasters), sending them off with an easy swaying good vibe. What a show.
