When I first started watching wrestling, I actually started out watching what was formerly known as Total Nonstop Action, now Impact Wrestling.
While that might surprise a lot of people I actually think it’s quite fitting. In 2010 there was only WWE, TNA, Ring of Honor and the independent scene. 12 years later there is so much wrestling content it is hard to keep up with everything going on. Now, when Maria Kannellis-Bennett called me out on Twitter on May 9 about why we should be paying more attention to Impact and the faction she’s in (Honor No More) it actually got me thinking about writing this article.
So for Maria and really any wrestling fan out there here is why you SHOULD be watching Impact Wrestling.
- More Options For Wrestlers To Go: Although it is most wrestlers’ goal to get to WWE, WWE (and AEW for that matter) can not house every talent under the sun. Take someone like “The Virtuosa” Deonna Purrazo for example. She was released from WWE during the pandemic and signed with Impact after her 90 day no compete clause was over. During her run she’s won the Impact Knockouts title, won wrestler and Knockout of the year, become a double champion by winning the Triple A women’s championship and truly helped re-establish Impact’s Knockout division as one of the best women’s divisions in the world. Purrazzo is one of the biggest success stories after her release from WWE, and for the likes of Matt Cardona, Chelsea Green, and W. Morrissey, your success story can always have a little more impact.
- The Women’s Division: This whole article could truly be about the women’s division. I believe Impact has the best women’s division out of any wrestling company right now. First, you have the power duo of Impact Hall of Famer Gail Kim and Christy Hemme leading the charge and teaching the new generation of women’s wrestlers. Then you have your veterans in Rosemary, Chelsea Green, Taya Valkyrie, and Madison Rayne. Mix that with newcomers Tasha Steelz (the current Knockouts Champion), Savannah Evans, Giselle Shaw, and Masha Slamovich plus a new signee is Mia Yim — that is just straight up talent. You have a very diverse roster who have a lot of talent, plus Impact always puts more than one women’s segment on a given TV episode.
- The Forbidden Door: Impact is truly a company who constantly gives the fans what they want with the Forbidden Door. We’ve seen Mickie James from the NWA win the Knockouts Title and then compete — with that title — at the Royal Rumble. AEW’s Kenny Omega and Christian Cage both held the Impact and TNA World Titles, plus we see the likes of Frankie Kazarian making appearances on TV. New Japan talent along with Impact’s own version of Bullet Club are a constant TV presence. The current NWA Heavyweight Champion Matt Cardona is a top name in Impact.
Even Ring of Honor has a presence in the Honor No More faction.
When ROH shut their doors no one knew what was coming next, but at Hard to Kill Honor No More made their debut they really did make an Impact. They recently defeated the Bullet Club at the Under Siege event and given the history OGK have with Impact Tag Team Champions The Briscoes, it is truly only a matter of time till Honor No More gets some gold.. Right?
Impact truly stays consistent with their storylines, production, and diverse talent. Their two hour programing moves at a fast pace and it is a truly enjoyable show, So if you are looking for a new wrestling product to try… make an impact 😉
