Dynamite opener is a game-changer. Wardlow defeats Scorpio Sky for the TNT Championship. The match relied heavily on outside interference by American Top Team, with Wardlow inevitably taking down everyone and powerbombing Scorpion three times for a definitive win. Blam goes the confetti and we’re celebrating!
Welp, Scorpio’s reign was very disappointing, and that’s not his fault. For some reason the TNT Championship hasn’t been used much, much less its now former champion. Scorpio is one talented dude, so it’s baffling his reign as champion will be forgettable. It’s a shame it went the way it did, but hopefully this will lead to bigger things.
Christian and Dark Luchasuarus in the ring, Christian turned up the uber heat as Matt Hardy interrupts and is verbally manhandled by Christian who targets Jeff and their combined shady history. Christian earns the ire of the live crowd as a provoked fight turns into Luchasaurus mauling Matt at ringside.
Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee defeated Butcher and the Blade in a surprisingly sludgy match. From the get-go, an errant leap frog started a sequence of miscues and disjointed wrestling. Certainly not the norm for these guys.
The post-match was far more interesting, as Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs continue to taunt Swerve and Lee, but are interrupted by reigning AEW World Tag Team Champions, The Young Bucks who remind us who paved the road for the world class tag team division. They also offer, for next week, yet another three-way dance for the AEW Tag Team Championships. The crowd heavily chants FTR. That, was funny.
Eddie Kingston comes to the ring for a promo, and warns Chris Jericho he still wants his blood. Unfortunately, this is interrupted via video, as the Jericho Appreciation Society attack RUBY SOHO!! Kingston flips out as her arm is crushed in a car door.
Well. THAT’S going to be very interesting.
Live in Rochester, New York, the hometown of the late Brodie Lee, the Dark Order members Evil Uno, John Silver, Alex Reynolds, Preston Vance, Ana Jay, and Negative One come out to the ring, and announce they are here to stay, and Dark Order isn’t going anywhere. Uno hands -1 the mic, but is interrupted by QT Marshall, who has some harsh words for the late Dark Order leader, and for a moment I thought the live crowd was going to commit murder. Thankfully, “Hangman” Adam Page rushes out and clobbers QT. Dark Order have their fun taking shots on QT before -1 taunts him.
Nice segment.
Rush defeated Penta Oscuro in a great match. Massive chop-fest mid-match. You could tell they’ve worked and have plenty of experience together. Well paced and high-hard-hitting impact. Funny moment during the first picture-in-picture, Alex Abrahantes and Jose the Assistant brawl to the back. Match comes to a horrifying conclusion when Rush rips off Penta’s mask, rolling him up for the pinfall win. This is becoming a losing pattern for the Lucha Brothers.
Gunn Club and The Acclaimed defeated Ruffin It and Fuego del Sol – The story of Gunn Club and Acclaimed no longer being on the same page came to it’s inevitably predictable conclusion with Billy Gunn turning and the Gunns leave Bowens and Caster down and out.
Thunderstorm (or Rosatoni?) defeated Nyla Rose and Marina Shafir – Decent match which saw the faces surprisingly dominate the majority of the match. Not the most fluid of tag bouts, but established Rosa and Storm as a cohesive team.
Jon Moxley defeated Brodie King to retain the AEW Interim World Championship
A big brawl of a match. Hard hits, some sick looking choke holds, and some scary spots which thankfully everyone got up from. I don’t think anyone was expecting a technical masterpiece from this. A straight-up fight is what you got. It took a few choke holds leading to the Bulldog Choke for the submission victory.
Rampage will feature Eddie Kingston vs. Takeshita.
I’ll say this in a good way, Dynamite 7/6 was a very eclectic episode of Dynamite. But once again, I approve of this solid show hyping up Rampage and next week’s Fyter Fest.
