AEW Fight for the Fallen 2022: One of the Best Dynamites of 2022

Tonight’s special Fight for the Fallen 2022 edition of Dynamite starts off with the AEW Interim Championship match, where Jon Moxley retains the title against RUSH.

Fantastic match with Rush looking like a million dollars. He made me believe he could have defeated Mox, and had this not been a championship match, I believe he could have been booked to win.

Rush is going to be featured heavily by AEW in the coming weeks, so giving him a high-profile match with Moxley is the right way to make him important.

Chris Jericho interrupts the post match, and while craftily putting over Eddie Kingston from last week’s brutal match, Jericho puts Mox on notice he wants a championship match. In response, Mox doesn’t want The Painmaker, or the Influencer, who whatever catchphrase of the week he comes up with… He wants to face LionHeart Chris Jericho.

I can’t help but wonder if this is a way to get the belt to Jericho, if this is the case, the path for Eddie Kingston to become World Champion. Jericho’s win last week was a tragic convoluted mess from an outstanding main event. If last week was a denial of Eddie getting his long-deserved victory over Jericho, then what better way than defeating him for the AEW World Championship?

Ricky Starks retains the FTW Championship against Danhausen

Hopes for a longer match were dashed when Starks countered a curse into a spear just moments in. Danhausen got one big offensive move in, but not enough.

Starks claimed he was ready for another challenger, and unlike last week, he would compete again. This was a mistake as Hook answers, and after a short wrestling exchange, defeats Starks for the championship.

You can hear how happy and proud Taz is to be on commentary calling this. Hook wears the championship his father created. Starks and Hook had a moment of respect with a fist-bump after the match.

After commercial, Starks and Hobbs are with Tony Schiavone, with Starks promising he has bigger aspirations and a loss is not going to deter him. He’s ready for big thi…

HOBBS TURNS ON STARKS! Taz is shouting in anger as Hobbs plants Starks with a spinebuster. Welp, all good things come to an end, and it seems this was the final nail in the coffin for Team Taz.

Introduction of the AEW Trios Championships in a tournament crowning the first champions at All Out.

Sammy Guevara w/Tay Conti defeated Dante Martin w/Skye Blue

A high-flying, high impact, and high risk as one would expect. Sammy gets the win after a springboard cutter.

Post match Sky Blue and Conti brawl, until Ana J-AS joins in. Ruby Soho with Eddie Kingston and Ortiz rush out to make the save.

I’m guessing an Eddie/Soho vs. Sammy/Conti feud is brewing.

Tony Schiavone with Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus

Welp, Jungle Boy takes his turn to go full rage mode and delivers a verbal decimation of Christian Cage with some real-life drama jabbing at Christian’s possible money troubles after his wife divorced him. It gets brutal from there until Cage shows up on screen and teases some secrets and lies of his own.

Luchasaurus is still wearing all black, one has to wonder just where his allegiance lies?

Backstage: Sonjay Dutt is fooled by Best Friends into a trios match on Rampage.

Backstage: Young Bucks and Brandon Cutler argue, until Cutler tells the Bucks all about the Trios championship which they didn’t seem to know about. I thought the Bucks had something to do with being EVPs? Don’t they know about this stuff? Continuity be damned! Suddenly, “Hangman” Adam Page stumbles on camera, and the awkward reunion is interrupted by The Dark Order. They bring Page some broccoli for his birthday. BTE segment continued.

Swerve Strickland defeated Tony Nese and “Smart” Mark Sterling

Good match when Nese was in the ring, Sterling’s in-ring appearance marked the end of the match as Strickland easily pins him. However, backstage, Keith Lee is wiped out by Josh Woods. An alliance with Nese and Woods could be very interesting.

Malakai Black & Brody King Promo – Offering Miro a spot with the House of Black, and King challenges Darby to a coffin match. Otherwise, he continues to attack Darby at autograph signings and comic-cons.

Thunder Rosa retains the AEW Women’s Championship against Mia Yamashita

A slow start led to an intense strong-style fight to a fast-and-furious finish. The live crowd seemed to take a while to get into it. A good match which felt like it hit all the right notes the longer it went on.

Majority of fans did not know Yamashita, but to AEW’s credit they are pushing the international draw more often, but needs to give fans more introduction and exposure before thrusting into a title scene.

Undisputed Elite will be on Dynamite next week.

Fight for the Fallen 2022 The Main Event: Daniel Garcia defeated Bryan Danielson in an epic wrestling match

Yes. Epic. This could have been Dean Malenko vs. Eddie Guerrero from ECW. I’d mention a Canadian wrestler but don’t want to get canceled.

Danielson was a clear dominator until a rocket dropkick caused him to land awkwardly and seemed to rock his head. It looked damn real, where both live crowd and I imagine crowd at home shuddered in fear something was wrong. All match long Danielson sold the head spot, portraying the possibility he was not ready to return. Garcia fought hard and Danielson fought back harder.

Thanks to a trip by Jake Hager, Danielson is crushed by a stiff looking piledriver, followed by a brutal Sharpshooter, causing Danielson to pass out unconscious.

Big HOLY CRAP and WOW moment. This match made Garcia. Yes, he’s an awesome technical wrestler who is no stranger to high profile matches, but something about this one was special.

I can’t help but wonder if this might be a real-life passing of the torch from the American Dragon to the Red Death.
