Marvel Studios introduces us to She-Hulk in the new Disney plus series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The show stars Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) as the charismatic Jennifer Walters, a 30s-ish lawyer whose life is abruptly interrupted after a car accident involving her and her cousin Bruce Banner fuses his gamma-radiated blood with hers. Despite Bruce Banner’s warning, Jennifer tries to return to her everyday life as an attorney like nothing ever happened. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law sees Jennifer try to navigate her career as a lawyer and her newfound ability to turn into a 6-foot 7-inch green superhero.

Marvel Studios’ dominant reign over the film and TV industry continue with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, a legal dramedy we didn’t even know we needed. Despite the backlash over bad CGI, “male-bashing,” and other excuses that some people found not to like the show — the series is terrific. The character performance by actress Tatiana Maslany and the unpredictability of the storyline far outweighs the cries over tiny blemishes of special effects. However, the more significant part of what Marvel and Disney are doing is bringing more female-led projects like She-Hulk to life with an incredible cast of talented women in front of and behind the camera.

As far as the acting is concerned, She-Hulk has been a blast! Tatiana Maslany is enjoyable to watch and embodies the character of She-Hulk and Jennifer Walters incredibly well. From the second, Maslany appears on the screen, breaking the fourth wall, which pays homage to writer and artist John Byrnes’ legendary comic book series, The Sensational She-Hulk, she shines. Maslany’s comedic timing is on point, and Maslany is the glue that holds She-Hulk together. In addition, the chemistry between Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo as cousins feels like a good brother-sister dynamic.

In terms of the episodes themselves, it’s been a fun ride thus far with directing from filmmaker Kat Coiro who brings the energy and hilariousness she helped create for TV shows like Modern Family and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to the MCU. The first episode, ” A Normal Amount of Rage,” tackles Jennifer’s origins. Meanwhile, the second “Superhuman Law” shows us what part of the MCU timeline her show takes place during and her drastic career change going forward. Also, because She-Hulk breaks the fourth wall, it allows Kat Coiro to blatantly play around with the audience in a way other television shows can’t, like having She-Hulk turn around and talk directly to the audience.

Another great person responsible for She-Hulk is Emmy award-winning writer and creator Jessica Gao, famous for writing the “Pickle Rick” episode of the animated hit show Rick and Morty. Gao’s writing on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is relatable and fun, with lines like, “I did not go to law school and rack up six figures in student loans to become a vigilante.” “That is for billionaires and narcissists.” Gao’s writing is charming, never seems like it takes itself too seriously, and blends well with the show’s overall tone.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law is a good show that opens the doorway to introducing many other Marvel characters into the MCU. The writing is decent, the directing style feels like Ally McBeal meets Ferris Bueller’s Day off, and the light-hearted tone sells the series. With seven episodes left in the show, it’ll be interesting to see how She-Hulk closes out the MCU before the end of Phase four with Black Panther 2.
