Aaron and Josh Sarnecky are here for their latest movie retrospective. This time they’re talking about 10th anniversary of Cloud Atlas.
Cloud Atlas is a science fiction film directed by Tom Tykwer, Lana Wachowski, and Lilly Wachowski. The movie is based on the novel by David Mitchell. It opened in theaters on October 26, 2012.
The film charts the journey of reincarnated souls throughout time. Locations include 1970s San Francisco, present day London, and Seoul in the far future. The ensemble cast features Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Bae Doona, Ben Whishaw, Jim Sturgess, Jim Broadbent, and Hugo Weaving.
The film polarized critics and audiences. Roger Ebert gave the film 4 out of 4 stars, while Village Voice named it the worst film of 2012. Financed through independent sources, the film was not a box office success, only making $130 million on an approximately $100 million budget.
Josh and Aaron discuss the movie’s ambition, the different storylines, and how it compares to the Wachowskis’ other films.
