Aaron and Josh are here to discuss Death Note for the 15th anniversary of its American debut.
Death Note is an anime based on the manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. It first premiered in Japan in 2006 and later in the U.S. on October 21, 2007 on Adult Swim. The 37th and final episode aired on July 6, 2008.
The series follows Light Yagami (Brad Swaile), a Japanese high schooler who finds a supernatural notebook that can kill people. Light tells the Shinigami Ryuk (Brian Drummond), the Death Note’s original owner, that he will kill criminals and become the God of the New World. Facing off against Light in a battle of wits is the world’s greatest detective, L (Alessandro Juliani).
Death Note garnered praise for its thrilling narrative, though it also drew criticism due to real life imitators. The series has been adapted into live action in Japan and the U.S.
Aaron and Josh talk about their initial exposure to Death Note and break down the plot, characters, and more.
Death Note is streaming on Netflix.
