Larkin Poe Brings Their 2023 ‘Blood Harmony’ World Tour to Philly’s Brooklyn Bowl

Pop Break: Larkin Poe ‘Blood Harmony’ WorldTour with Tall Heights at Brooklyn Bowl Philly on Friday March 10, 2022

Larkin Poe, the Grammy-nominated sister duo who have garnered fans all around the globe with their bluesy Southern rock sound, stopped in at the Brooklyn Bowl in Philadelphia on March as part of their Blood Harmony World Tour.

They are touring in support of their critically acclaimed album Blood Harmony, released in November of last year. Rebecca Lovell and Megan Lovell are both multi-instrumentalists and highly respected musicians who have collaborated with the likes of Keith Urban, Elvis Costello, Sugarland, and Dawes.

Fans who arrived early for the show were treated to an impressive set by opening act Tall Heights. This cello/guitar duo (Tim Harrington and Paul Wright) had a big sound and was backed by a drummer. Two of the songs that stood out were “Hear it Again” and “The Mountain,” the latter had gorgeous harmonies. They got a great response from this Philly crowd at the end of their set.

Larkin Poe didn’t mess around and started the show off with a powerful in your face one-two punch of “Strike Gold” and “Kick the Blues” — both off latest album which really set the tone for the rest of the night. The ladies were backed by a drummer and guitarist. It’s pretty accurate to say they captivated the crowd and did it with old school swagger at times, yet there were heartfelt moments as well. Their songs tell stories and I’m sure were very relatable to many people in the audience. Between Megan’s haunting slide guitar riffs, their sweet Southern rock harmonies and Rebecca’s prowess and shredding, the audience collectively seemed to be on cloud nine!

The setlist was a great mix of old and new. It was hard to say which songs were highlights as honestly every single song hit the mark but “Bad Spell,” “Bolt Cutters & The Family Name” and their cover of AC/DC’s “Wanted Woman” were incredible. Their song “Southern Comfort” stood out as well — ironically the tour sponsor is the actual maker of Southern Comfort. The company reached out to them after hearing the song and made them an offer to sponsor this tour so they could get back on the road. The girls had two shots of it brought to the stage and toasted them in appreciation of their support.

Another great song was the anthemic “She’s A Self Made Man.” Rebecca mentioned she wrote it for herself, her sisters and for all woman. The duo came off as very humble and down to earth during the night. The band stopped in mid-song as they noticed a fan in need of emergency attention. They would not re-start the show until security in the back gave them a thumbs up that the person was being taken care of. That does not always happen at shows but they were adamant about it and the fans gave them a huge applause for waiting. They encored with “Deep Stays Down,” another gem off Blood Harmony. Larkin Poe is truly a force in this genre of music as musicians, writers and performers. This performance was a masterclass in showmanship 101.
