Welcome to TV Break, where Pop Break’s Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus is joined by editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin, and TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky to talk about the happenings in television.
Here’s the format of the show:
The Best Thing I Saw on TV Last Month – Alex, Josh, and special guest Courtney Stevenson talk about a show/episode/event they liked from the last month including Netflix’s Black Mirror and The Way of the House Husband; AppleTV Plus’s Platonic and The Crowded Room, and FreeVee’s Jury Duty.
News Break – Alex, Bill, Josh, and Courtney all skip the news this month to discuss their top tv shows of the first half of 2023, including in depth discussions of: The Bear, From, Shrinking, The Other Two, Ted Lasso, Demonslayer, and more.
Streaming Wars – Alex, Josh, and Courtney pick a streamer they think “won the month” based on new shows airing/upcoming shows announced etc. Josh and Courtney agreed that Netflix had the best month after their major Tudum news event, new TV series like: Black Mirror Season 6, The Witcher Season 3 Part 1, and Queen Charlotte, and new movies such as Extraction 2 and Namona. Meanwhile, Alex makes the case for Hulu after The Bear’s second season launches big, they secure the rights to SXSW favorite Anna Kendrick/Andy Samberg comedy Self Reliance, and they dropped trailers for Justified: City of Primeval, What We Do In The Shadows, and Reservation Dogs. Ryan Murphy leaving Netflix for Disney is also discussed.
New Series Spotlight – Alex, Josh, and Courtney review Secret Invasion,Disney Plus’s first MCU series since last fall’s SheHulk, starring Samuel L. Jackson as Agent Nick Fury.
The series, created by Mr. Robot writer Kyle Bradstreet and directed by Ali Selim, follows Fury as he returns to Earth to deal with an emergent threat from the shapeshifting Skrulls. Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos and Don Cheadle’s Rhodey both return, while Academy Award winner Olivia Coleman, Emilia Clarke, and Kingsley Ben-Adir make their MCU debuts to round out the cast.
