Welcome to TV Break, where Pop Break’s Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus is joined by editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin, and TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky to talk about the happenings in television.
Here’s the format of the show:
The Best Thing I Saw on TV Last Month – Alex, Bill, & Josh talk about a show/episode/event they liked from the last month including Disney Plus’s Echo, Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building Season 1, FX’s Fargo, HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, and Netflix’s Yu Yu Hakusho.
Mini Segment – Emmy thoughts and a review of Reservation Dogs S2E7 “Stay Gold Cheesy Boy” (currently streaming on Hulu and Disney Plus), which the boys watch thanks to Alex winning this year’s Emmy Wager.
News Break – Alex, Bill, and Josh react to the news that Jon Stewart will be returning to The Daily Show.
Streaming Wars – Alex, Bill, & Josh pick a streamer they think “won the month” based on new shows airing/upcoming shows announced etc. Josh & Alex both gave the month to Peacock after its all time best month in streaming subscribers, its successful NFL Playoff game, and its debut of Ted: The Series and Oppenheimer.
Meanwhile, Bill gave it to Netflix, thanks to their $5B deal with the WWE for Monday Night Raw and the international streaming rights NXT, Wrestle Mania, Summer Slam and more, along with their continuing to reign supreme in the total subs game.
New Series Spotlight – Alex, Bill, & Josh review Griselda, Netflix’s new series starring Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara as real life Columbian drug lord Griselda Blanco, who came to prominence in 1980s Miami and was known as the Godmother of Cocaine. The series was produced by Vergara alongside Narcos co-creator Eric Newman, written by Narcos cro-creator Doug Miro, and directed by Andres Baiz, who directed 12 episodes of Narcos and four of Narcos: Mexico.
