TV Break: April 2024 – 3 Body Problem, X-Men ’97, Girls5Eva, and Mr. Beast Goes to Amazon

Welcome to TV Break, where Pop Break’s Podcasts Editor Alex Marcus is joined by editor-in-chief Bill Bodkin, and TV Columnist Josh Sarnecky to talk about the happenings in television.

Here’s the format of the show:

The Best Thing I Saw on TV Last Month – Alex & Bill talk about a show/episode/event they liked from the last month including DisneyPlus’s X-Men: ‘97 and Netflix’s Girls5Eva

News Break – Alex and Bill react to the news that Amazon Prime Video has reached a deal with YouTuber Mr. Beast to create the world’s largest game show.

Streaming Wars – Alex and Bill pick a streamer they think “won the month” based on new shows airing/upcoming shows announced etc. Bill went with the newly colored Disney Plus, which has brought Hulu content online for all Hulu subscribers, debuted The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version), The Marvels, and Elemental, and doubled down on the hype zone with trailers and release date announcements for The Acolyte, Doctor Who, and Bluey. Oh and X-Men ‘97 has dominated the internet, The Pop Break included.

Meanwhile, Alex gives the nod to AppleTV+ thanks to exciting trailers for projects like Colin Farrell’s Sugar and Michael Douglas’s Franklin, exciting new docs like Girls State and Steve! (martin), new episodes of Loot, Fraggle Rock, Palme Royale, Manhunt, and Masters of the Air, a new season of Friday Night Baseball, and free access to major 2023 films like Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon.

New Series Spotlight – Alex and Bill  review 3 Body Problem, Netflix’s adaptation of the acclaimed novel by  Liu Cixin. The series was created by former Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss and Alexander Woo. It stars a massive ensemble led by Benedict Wong of Doctor Strange
