The Geekery to Celebrate Free Comic Book Day with Huge Deals & Great Titles

May 4, 2024 isn’t just Star Wars Day, it’s also Free Comic Book Day at your local, favorite comic book store.

The Geekery (our editor-in-chief’s local, favorite comic book store), located 19 Little Street in Matawan, New Jersey, will celebrate this unofficial holiday with not only 50 free comic book titles from comic book publishers, but also special deals on graphic novels and trade paperbacks.

All graphic novels, trade paperbacks, and hardcover books will be Buy 2 Get 1 Free. All back issues in the back issue room are marked down by 50%. There will also be $10 specialty boxes. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to accommodate customers.

Some of the comics available, according to the official Free Comic Book Day website, include:

  • Hellboy (Dark Horse)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IDW)
  • Johnny Quest (Dynamite)
  • Ultimate Universe Spider-Man #1 (Marvel)
  • Multiple special edition DC comics
  • Bloodhunt X-Men #1 (Marvel)
  • Encanto and Turning Red (Disney)
  • Pokemon Adventures Ruby and Sapphire
  • Archie Horror Presents The Cursed Library Prelude
  • Boom Box 10th Anniversary Extravaganza
  • Star: Wars Young Jedi vs. Zombies (of Plants vs. Zombies)
  • Marvel Voices #1
  • Star Wars #1
  • Spidey and His Amazing Friends
  • Eye-Life Popeye (Massive)
  • One Piece Aces Story & Status Royal (VIZ Media)
  • Doctor Who (Titan Comics)
  • …and more!

Titles and quantity will vary, and supplies are limited, so if there’s a title you’re stoked about plan on getting there early to pick them up! (Also, if they aren’t in stock, be nice to the employees, they’re working hard and are pretty nice people).

Outside of Free Comic Book Day, The Geekery also has events throughout the years like their monthly book club which is held the first Friday of every month. They also have sales and appearances/signings throughout the years as well.

The Geekery opened up in 2018 (originally around the corner on Main Street) by brothers Doug and Justin Preston. The store has a vast collection of comic books and graphic novels as well as collectibles like pins (traditional and enamel), Funk pops, blind bags, action figures and more. They have a terrific section for kids and young readers as well.

Personally speaking, The Geekery is my personal go-to comic book store for myself and my daughter. The store is everything you’d want from your local shop — fun, friendly and filled with titles you want to dive into.
